Becoming a Teacher - Project Sponsors

This project is sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) and the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).

Information from sponsors:

"The Department is committed to ensuring we have the most effective teaching in schools, leading to high standards for all. We need to understand better how a teacher's experience of teacher training impacts on their later experience in the classroom. Findings will allow us to make a comparison across the various teacher training routes to inform future policy development and to target resources where they have the greatest effect." (DfES)

"The GTC is interested in this collaborative study of new entrants to teaching over time because we want to know more about the whole of this critical professional phase. The study will enable us to learn about the impact of this phase on others, for example, about whether the route to QTS has any impact upon early promotion aspirations. We are particularly interested to know more about the formative experiences that encourage new entrants to remain and thrive in the teaching profession." (GTCE)

"Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this study. Your views and experiences are extremely valuable. Finding out what teachers really think is crucial if the TDA is to succeed in its aims of ensuring the supply of good-quality, newly qualified teachers and enabling schools to develop the effectiveness of both their teachers and support staff." (TDA)
